Everyone on Earth, no matter their life experience, has muscle tension sitting just beneath their conscious awareness. This muscle tension is the residue of living, deriving its patterns from our habits, injuries, injury recovery, our life's work, trauma (both emotional & physical), stress, birth & pregnancy, sports and so much more. This subconscious muscle tension manifests as what we assume is inevitable with aging: loss of mobility & pain. Clinical Somatics not only stops unnecessary, subconscious muscle tension in its tracks, it also re-educates the muscles at the level of the Nervous System to REVERSE tension, so people experience less pain, more vitality, and freedom. In the Myth of Aging Series, certified Somatic Movement Teacher, Kira Macoun, leads an in-depth 6 class workshop of the"Cat Stretch": Clinical Somatics founder Thomas Hanna's daily practice that creates more energy, less pain and generates a newfound sense of youthfulness for those who practice. Each 90 minute session is a deep exploration of one of the trademark movements of the Cat Stretch. Participants walk away from the series with profound new ways to move and communicate with their bodies. Series Overview: Class 1 Discover your own present posture! Learn the Three Reflexes, the foundational principles of Somatic Movement, feel your primary Red Light, Green Light, & Trauma Reflexes through the Arch & Flatten and Hip Calibration pandiculations. Class 2 Release the tightness in your chest with Arch & Curl to create a taller posture. Help reduce low back pain and let go of hip flexor tightness with Cross Lateral Arch & Curl + Psoas Release. Class 3 Side Bend will help you discover the source of imbalance in your body, and the ribcage expansion will have you breathing more deeply! Class 4 Back pain and an overactive trapezius (shoulder & neck) muscle will benefit greatly from practicing the Back Lift. And one-sided low back pain will be eased with Hip Calibration. Class 5 Feel luxurious in your body and completely relaxed after doing Washrag. That paired with Flower will have you ready for a VERY good night's sleep. Class 6 Walking, Rotation and Hip Hikers, oh my! In our final session we will explore the movement we do most as human beings: walking. How might your walk be creating discomfort or pain in your body? Is there a disruption of flow in your movement? How could the full expression of walking in the body shift these issues? *Video Replays provided for 12 weeks.


Cancellation Policy

For Wayfinding Sessions: We request a 24-hour notice of cancellation. With less than 24-hour notice, we will reschedule you within the next 10 days. For Orientation Sessions: We require a 48-hour notice of cancellation. With less than 48-hours notice, we can reschedule for free within 10 days. Beyond 10 days of originally scheduled intake, 50% of the fee will be refunded. All Orientation Sessions must be paid for in advance.
